UPCOMING DATES AND THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT COLLEGES/SCHOLARSHIPS:

College Visits

  • Listen to the P/A announcements:  Colleges visit CHS and meet with students throughout the year.  Make sure to listen to the announcements and check the senior bulletin board to find out which colleges are coming and when.  Sign up on the senior bulletin board if you would like to meet with the specific college reps during their visits.

On-Site Admissions

  • Virginia Tech and Radford do on-site admissions.  This means that representatives come to the school and review application and decide that day if you are accepted, deferred, or denied admission into the university.  This gives you the benefit of Early Decision without the commitment
    • Virginia Tech will be here  December 3, 2008.  Applications are due to Ms. Graham by November 24, 2008 .
    • Radford University will be here November 20,2008.  Applications are due to Ms. Graham on November 17, 2008.

Scholarships:

·         We advertise a variety of local and school-based scholarships.  Scholarship opportunities are offered throughout the school year.  The scholarship “notebook” is on the table outside of Ms. Barroso’s office.  The notebook offers information on every scholarship that comes in to the guidance office.   Information is provided about:  the kind of scholarship requirements (GPA, SAT score, community service involvement, financial situation, extracurricular activities).  Scholarship offerings are also announced in homeroom.

·         Christiansburg High School students received over half a MILLION DOLLARS last year in scholarship money.
