Guidance FAQ's

How can I get tutoring? Ans. The best person to offer tutoring is your classroom teacher. Your teacher knows what you are covering. Ask your teacher one-on-one when is the best time. Tutoring is also available by fee from providers listed in the phone book.

How do I register for the SAT or ACT? Ans. SAT and ACT registrations are available online or paper and pencil. Check in guidance for the preferred form. Fee waivers are available from Mrs. Stafford if you qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Where can I get help preparing for SAT or ACT? Ans. There are several opportunities available. CHS is offering free math help in Room B202 every Monday from 2:45 to 3:45.  The College Board and the ACT offer test taking strategies and sample tests on their website for free.
Ms. Canter offers Reading/Writing SAT review on Monday and Wednesday from 2:45- 3:45 in the library.  A free online prep course can be found at www.march2success.com.  This program was developed by the Peterson Publishing Company and is being supplied free of charge by the Army.  You will not be contacted by a recruiter, nor do you have any obligation to the military to use this program.

Where do I get information on Scholarships? Ans. Scholarships are housed in the guidance office. National scholarship searches can be done through several website such as FastWeb.com. Do not pay for search services. See your counselor for assistance. Avoid SCAMS!

Can I change my schedule? Ans. The master schedule and staffing were prepared based on spring requests for classes. Students and parents had all summer to make adjustments. Only broken schedules, incorrect placements due to summer school or class failures will be addressed.

How can I meet with my child’s teacher? Ans. Contact the teacher or the counselor to schedule a meeting.

If I am absent, how do I get my homework assignments?
If you are very ill and will be out for 3 or more days, you may contact the guidance office and a homework request will be made.  It takes a minimum of 24 hours before teachers will receive the request and respond.  If you are going to be out for just a day or two, your teachers will provide you with makeup work upon your return and the teachers course syllabus should have told you how long you have after your absence to complete the work.
